Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is it?
A technique used to convert negative experiences into adaptive learning experiences.
Why use it?
Traumatic experiences can create negative images, beliefs, and emotions that can plague individuals for years or even a lifetime. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive, integrative technique which can help people transform those negative experiences into positive ones. The process can desensitize individuals to the negative impacts of their traumatic experiences.
How does it work?
By way of bilateral stimulation, either through eye movement, tapping, or other forms of bilateral stimulation, the client is able to reprocess the traumatic event and integrate the memory in a more functional, less distressing way. The memory will not disappear, but it will become less vivid and less disturbing.
This type of therapy can help clients overcome experiences which have held them back for years. If you would like to participate in EMDR therapy, contact Karen for an appointment.
